Lone Pine Cemetery And Memorial

Description

It is located in the Kanlısırt (Martyrs' Hill) area—at an elevation of 125 meters—along the Kabatepe–Conkbayırı road. This area was the site of the Battle of Lone Pine, which began on August 6, 1915, and saw some of the fiercest and bloodiest trench warfare. Allied forces named the location "Lone Pine" due to a solitary, conspicuous pine tree that remained standing there during the fighting. The site serves as both a cemetery commemorating Australian soldiers who lost their lives in the conflict and the Australian Memorial to the Missing.
