Yemeni Master
Description
Located in Safranbolu, Karabük, a UNESCO World Heritage site and among the 20 best-preserved cities, the "Yemeniciler Arastası" (Shoemakers' Bazaar), consisting of 48 shops, continues to function despite the passage of time. Established in 1661, adjacent to the Köprülü Mehmet Paşa Mosque, the Yemeniciler Arastası continues to bear witness to history. This particular Yemeni master, who has served in this bazaar for years, is a living example of this history and continues to attract the attention of tourists. Until the late 1950s, shoemaking was an important craft in Safranbolu. The bazaar, which supplied the army's shoe needs during the War of Independence, has been restored and is now used for tourism purposes. The Ahmet Demirezen Yemeni Museum in the bazaar is open on weekends.
